Patrick Neher in PerformancePatrick Neher gave his first, "debut" solo recital as a double bass player in 1974 at the age of 15, after having studied the cello and double bass for only 7 years. The program included works of Capuzzi, Bottesini, Marcello, and his own composition, "Felingreo." In a short time he was employed professionally in the Orchestra of Santa Fe. In 1976 Patrick Neher enrolled at the Eastman School of Music and then in 1977, the Juilliard School. During his school years, his soloist reputation blossomed, with the winning of numerous international instrumental competitions. Soon, after graduating from the Juilliard School with his Masters Degree in 1981, Patrick Neher entered the soloist's field, performing in major music centers throughout Europe, South America, and the United States. Though he has also been an orchestral and chamber musician during his entire career, Patrick Neher has continually performed in soloist venues and developed a solo repertory of over 300 compositions from the Baroque era to the present time. His performances have been well received in all venues, praised as "enthralling, creative, energetic, outstanding, thoughtful, theatrical, spontaneous, and inspiring." Patrick NeherA musician with "integrity," Patrick Neher has an amiable and welcoming spirit on stage, allowing his audiences to be comfortable and intrigued with experiencing this noble and novel instrument in an unusual setting, and to be inspired by creative interpretations of old and new music alike.

In 1984, Patrick Neher was appointed to the faculty of the Univeristy of Arizona, where he has held the position since. As an avant garde professor and soloist, Patrick Neher has established a solid reputation, resulting in invitations around the world to give master classes, clinics, and solo performances.

The performance repertory of Patrick Neher includes works of all eras. The music of: Bach, Marcello, Galliard, Handel, Telemann, DeFesch, Vivaldi, Sperger, Hoffmeister, Dittersdorf, Pichl, Mozart, Bottesini, Luigi Negri, Dvorak, Beethoven, Hertl, Horky, Misek, Hindemith, Persichetti, Marcel Bitsch, Alfred Desenclos, Jon Deak, Bertram Turetzky, Frank Proto, Teppo Hauta-aho, Francois Rabbath, Julia Smith, Julio Estrada, Steven Mosko, David Anderson, Efram Kurtz, Colin Seamarks, and Paul Barsom are but a few of the representative composers that make up the sonatas, concertos, and concert pieces that Prof. Neher has always ready to present. In addition, Neher has written more that 30 compositions for the double bass from which a selection is often included in his programs. Neher is also an improvisational artist. His programs often include works such as Dance in the Clouds, Gjauticurratefiticus in Term in al Aie, Chatrooms, and Duo Éclatant, each being entirely improvisational or having improvisation as a strong componant.
